STAR-Ghana Foundation in collaboration with National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has sensitized residents of four flood prone communities in the Northern and North East Regions on measures to ensure their safety during rainy season. These communities are Sugu Tampia in the Kumbungu District, Nawuni in the ,Savelugu District, Chama Janga in West Mamprusi and Kubugu-Yagaba in the Mampurugu Moaduri District. The event sought to strengthen residents’ capacity on strategies (not encroaching on flood prone areas, planting early variety food crops, keeping surrounding clean,) for risk reduction while building resilience against incidences of floods.

As part of the program, communities came up with Community Flood Management Plan. The plans are to guide the communities in identifying risk factors of floods in their communities and how they can eliminate or manage the risk factors to reduce the impact of floods on community members.
Residents were happy with the education and pledged their unflinching support to the implementation of the community flood management plans.
Our sincere thanks go to Global Funds for Community Foundation for supporting this worthy course.
